Criminals sometimes impersonate financial advisory firms and their personnel, using real names, copied branding and look-alike websites or email addresses. This notice sets out how Odette Capital communicates, the warning signs to look for, and how to report a suspected scheme.
If you receive a suspicious communication that uses Odette Capital’s name, do not reply, click links, open attachments or send money. Forward it to Odette and verify the request by calling a number you already know to be genuine. If funds have already been sent, contact your bank immediately and ask it to recall the transfer.
Odette Capital provides M&A and strategic advisory services to companies. The standards below apply to every communication from the firm and can be used to test any message that claims to come from Odette.
| Matter | Odette will | Odette will never |
|---|---|---|
| Conduct firm business from addresses ending in @odettecapital.com | Contact you about an engagement, transaction or position from a personal account, a messaging app or a look-alike domain | |
| Payment details | Confirm any change to its payment instructions by telephone, using a number you already have on file | Change its payment instructions by email alone |
| Transaction funds | Direct transaction funds only through the parties and agents named in the transaction documents | Ask a buyer, investor or counterparty to send deposits, purchase price or escrow amounts to an Odette account |
| Investment offers | Advise companies on transactions and strategy | Offer investment accounts, trading groups or paid investment classes, or give investment advice on WhatsApp, Telegram or social media |
| Recruitment | Post genuine openings on odettecapital.com and make offers in writing | Ask candidates to pay fees, buy equipment or training, or provide bank or identity details before a formal written offer |
Business email compromise is one of the most financially damaging forms of online fraud. A criminal sends a message that appears to come from a known contact, often at a critical point such as a closing or an invoice date, and asks for funds to be sent to a new account.
These requests typically carry unexplained urgency, a new or overseas bank account, or an instruction to keep the matter confidential. Before acting on any payment request that appears to come from Odette, confirm it by telephone using a number you already know to be genuine.
Odette’s analyst and internship programs are public, which makes the firm’s name attractive to people running fake job offers. Odette does not conduct interviews by text message or messaging app, and at no point in the recruitment process will Odette request any form of payment.
If you are unsure whether an offer or interview request is genuine, contact reportfraud@odettecapital.com before responding.
| Warning sign | What it can look like |
|---|---|
| Pressure and secrecy | Demands to act immediately, keep a request confidential or bypass normal approvals |
| Unfamiliar channels | Personal email accounts, misspelled domains, unknown telephone numbers or links sent by text message |
| Requests for money or data | Upfront fees, gift cards, cryptocurrency, passwords or personal identification |
| Offers that sound too good | Guaranteed or unusually consistent returns, unsolicited investment opportunities and missing documentation |
Stop all contact, keep copies of the messages, and contact your bank if any payment has been made. Report the incident to local law enforcement and to the agencies below, and notify Odette at reportfraud@odettecapital.com.
